Yu-e back-to-back HVDC network project adopts flexible dc transmission technology, with rated voltage ±420 kilovolts. Nantong converter station includes 2 converter units, each of which has a transmission capacity of 1.25 million kw. It was approved by the state in December 2016, started construction in April 2017, and started field debugging in December 2018.

This project is the first flexible dc demonstration project of state grid, and also the first commercial operation flexible dc transmission project of state grid. Chongqing hubei project put into production will implement each asynchronous interconnected power grid and the four northeastern provinces of central China power grid, southwest of build form grids, fundamentally solve the problem of long chain of 500 kv ac power grid stability, effectively reduce the uhv grid "stiffness weak hand in the" structural risk, a substantial increase in each grid each other aid ability between the eastern and central China power grid, improve the transmission capacity of each section.
